At-Home Craft: Make Your Own Cello

It’s craft time! Join Sarah from the Seattle Symphony’s Education & Community Engagement team as she shows you how to make your own cello.

What you’ll need

  • Cello Template
  • Coloring supplies
  • 4 strings about 7-inches long each
  • 1 paper straw
  • 1 pipe cleaner, cut in half
  • Scissors
  • Tape

Steps to make your instrument

  • Print the cello template
  • Color your cello
  • Cut out the cello
  • Tape four strings near the top of the instrument, and again at the bottom
  • Place your pipe cleaner into one end of the paper straw, leaving a little bit poking out
  • Tape the straw to the back of the cello with the pipe cleaner showing at the bottom of the instrument
  • Pluck your strings and adjust your endpin by pulling out and pushing in your pipe cleaner!

Don’t have the needed materials? No problem! Check out this website where you can color a cello online for free.
