Music Director Thomas Dausgaard has gathered an extraordinary cast of soloists to join the Seattle Symphony and Chorale for this monumental work.
Music Director of the Seattle Symphony, Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard is esteemed for his creativity and innovative programming, the excitement of his live performances and his extensive catalogue of critically acclaimed recordings. A renowned recording artist with over 70 discs to his name, Dausgaard’s releases with the Seattle Symphony have garnered critical acclaim resulting in international honors including Gramophone’s 2018 Orchestra of the Year Award and a Grammy nomination for Best Orchestral Performance.
Dinara Alieva was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, and graduated from the music academy there. She has won prizes and many international competitions, including the Operalia Competition (Milan, La Scala, 2010), the Francesco Viñas Competition (Barcelona, 2010), the Maria Callas Competition (Athens) and the Elena Obraztsova Competition (St Petersburg). In 2010 she gave a joint concert with Plácido Domingo in Baku, and she was awarded the title of Honorary Artist of Azerbaijan.
Among the most renowned of her generation, Ruxandra Donose has captured critical and popular acclaim in leading opera houses and concert halls around the world. Her voice has been described as an "incredibly exciting, flowing mezzo-soprano, which has no breaks and a flawless timbre." Her expressive vocalism, thoughtful musicianship, and elegant stage presence allow her to pursue an extensive operatic and orchestral repertoire.
“The clarion-voiced, impressive” (New York Times) Lirico Spinto tenor Bruce Sledge has been praised for his “bright, attractive sound and superb technical skills” that he has shared with audiences at major opera houses around the world over his career spanning more than two decades. Sledge started the 2019-2020 season making his role debut as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in a Metropolitan Opera “Live in HD” transmission seen by audiences in over 70 countries worldwide. He was also seen at UCLA’s Royce Hall as a tenor soloist in Rachel Fuller’s Animal Requiem. Upcoming engagements include covering the title role of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Metropolitan Opera, a reprisal of the role of Paolo Erisso in Rossini’s Maometto Secondo with Washington Concert Opera, and his role debut as Don José in Opera Colorado’s Carmen.
Praised for his “nobility and rich tone,” (The New York Times) and his “enormous, thrilling voice seemingly capable … [of] raising the dead;” (Wall Street Journal), bassbaritone Dashon Burton has established a world-wide career in opera, recital, and in many works with orchestra.
The Seattle Symphony Chorale serves as the official chorus of the Seattle Symphony. Over its past four decades, the Chorale has grown in artistry and stature, establishing itself as a highly respected ensemble.
