Free Concerts in Your Neighborhood This Season

This season the Seattle Symphony will perform five free concerts, including a free Seattle Symphony-only Community Concert in Des Moines on October 23 and four free Side-by-Side concerts. The concerts are part of the Orchestra’s ongoing commitment to broaden accessibility to arts programming and build lasting relationships with communities throughout the region.

Side-by-Side Concerts provide a valuable opportunity for students to perform alongside professional musicians and are part of a continuing tradition of coaching and mentoring young musicians from local high schools, universities and community organizations. The Side-by-Side concerts with West Seattle Community Orchestra and Roosevelt High School Orchestra each feature a young musician in a solo role, selected through the Seattle Symphony’s Young Artist Auditions.

Flutist Zoe Sheill will perform Gordeli’s Concertino for Flute and Orchestra at the Side-by-Side concert with the West Seattle Community Orchestra on October 20 and Andrew Angelos, horn, will perform Villanelle for Horn and Orchestra by Dukas at the Roosevelt Side-by-Side on January 29. Kevin Ahfat, piano, won the Seattle Symphony’s First Piano Competition in September 2015. He will perform Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C minor at the University of Washington Side-by-Side on January 26.
